RU students continue strike protesting prof killing

Students of Rajshahi University today continued their protest program on the campus for the consecutive seventh day demanding arrest of the killers of Professor Rezaul Karim Siddiquee.
The students in their thousands attended a rally in the morning.
Witnesses said the protesters brought out a procession in front of the Department of English at about 10:00am.
The procession ended at the Mukul Mancha in front of Shahidullah Arts Bhaban of the campus.
Prof Rezaul Karim, 58, of the RU English department, was killed by miscreants in the city’s Shalbagan area on 23 April.
Victim’s son Sourov Hossain filed a murder case with Boalia police station.
The case later was transferred to the Detective Branch (DB) of police.
Rajshahi University Teachers’ Association on last Monday threatened to go on a nonstop strike if the government failed to arrest the killers within seven days.

সংস্কৃতি প্রতিমন্ত্রী অ্যাডভোকেট প্রমোদ মানকিন (৭৭) বুধবার ভোরে ভারতের মুম্বাইয়ের হলি ফ্যামিলি হাসপাতালে চিকিৎসাধীন অবস্থায় মৃত্যুবরণ করেছেন। Click Here ফুসফুসের সংক্রমণে আক্রান্ত হয়ে ময়মনসিহংহ-হালুয়াঘাটের এই আওয়ামী লীগ নেতা কিছুদিন ধরে মুম্বাইয়ের ওই হাসপাতালে ভর্তি ছিলেন। বুধবার ভোরে তার মৃত্যুর খবর দেশে আসে বলে তার পরিবারের সদস্যরা জানান। গারো সম্প্রদায়ের প্রতিনিধি প্রমোদ মানকিন জাতীয় সংসদে ময়মনিসংহ-১ (হালুয়াঘাট-ধোবাউড়া) আসনের ভোটারদের প্রতিনিধিত্ব করেছেন চার বার।    তার মৃত্যুতে গভীর শোক প্রকাশ করে প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনা প্রয়াত এই নেতার পরিবারের সদস্যদের প্রতি সমবেদনা জানিয়েছেন। ১৯৩৯ খ্রিস্টাব্দের ১৮ এপ্রিল নেত্রকোণা জেলার দুর্গাপুর উপজেলার বাকালজোড়া ইউনিয়নের রামনগর গ্রামে এক গারো খ্রিস্টান পরিবারে প্রমোদ মানকিনের জন্ম। ১৯৯১ সালে আওয়ামী লীগে দিয়ে তিনি রাজনীতিতে সক্রিয় হন। মৃত্যুর আগ পর্যন্ত হালুয়াঘাট উপজেলা আওয়ামী লীগের সভাপতি ও ময়মনসিংহ জেলা আওয়ামী লীগের সদস্য ছিলেন তিনি।

Met office forecasts heavy rainfall likely

Due to active monsoon heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at  places over Chittagong, Rajshahi, Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions in 24 hours as of 10am  tomorrow due to fairly active monsoon over the country.  "Due to heavy to very heavy rainfall landslide may occur at places over the hilly regions of Chittagong  and Sylhet divisions," Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) release said here today. Besides "Rain or thunder showers temporary southerly or south easterly gusty or squally wind speed  4 -60 kilometers per hour (kph) is likely to occur over the regions of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Pabna, Bogra,  Tangail Mymensingh, Sylhet, Jessore, Kushtia, Dhaka, Faridpur, Madaripur, Khulna, Barisal, Patuakhali,  Noakhali Comilla, Chittagong and Cox's Bazar wherein riverports shall hoist cautionary signal number  one till 6pm today.

রোহিঙ্গা নির্যাতনের প্রতিবাদ ড্যাফোডিল শিক্ষক-শিক্ষার্থীদের

মিয়ানমারে রোহিঙ্গাদের হত্যা, নির্যাতনের প্রতিবাদে মানববন্ধন করেছেন ড্যাফোডিল ইন্টারন্যাশনাল স্কুলের শিক্ষক ও শিক্ষার্থীরা। বৃহস্পতিবার দুপুরে স্কুলের বিপরীতে সোবহানবাগে এ মানববন্ধন অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। মানববন্ধন শেষে এক আলোচনা সভা অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। আলোচনায় অংশ নিয়ে স্কুলের শিক্ষকরা বলেন, ধর্ম যার যার, রাষ্ট্র সবার। শুধু ধর্মকে ব্যবহার করে রোহিঙ্গাদের ওপর ইতিহাসের বর্বরোচিত হামলা করে যাচ্ছে মিয়ানমারের সরকারি বাহিনী। এ হামলা থেকে রোহিঙ্গা শিশুরাও রেহাই পাচ্ছে না; যার কারণে তারা নিরাপদ আশ্রয়ের খোঁজে বাংলাদেশে চলে আসছে। বক্তারা বলেন, মিয়ানমারের রাখাইন প্রদেশে যা ঘটছে, তা মানবতাবিরোধী অপরাধ। ইতোমধ্যে বাংলাদেশসহ বিশ্বের বিভিন্ন দেশ বর্বরোচিত এ হামলার নিন্দা ও তা বন্ধের আহ্বান জানিয়েছে। এতে বক্তব্য রাখেন, স্কুলের অধ্যক্ষ শাহানা খান, উপদেষ্টা ড. মাহমুদুল হাসান, সিনিয়র ভাইস প্রিন্সিপ্যাল রহিমা মির্জা রোজিমেরি প্রমুখ। এছাড়া দ্রুত এ হামলা বন্ধ করে বাংলাদেশে আসা রোহিঙ্গাদের ফেরত নেওয়ারও দাবি জানান বক্তারা।
