After opening fire in Shahpur area, the Pakistan army started shelling and gunfire in Sabjiyan area of Poonch district. The state minister for Social Affairs Promod Mankin passed away undergoing treatment at Mumbai’s Holy Family Hospital early Wednesday. Social Welfare ministry’s public relation officer Maidul Islam and his nephew Sang confirmed the death to media.   They said Mankin’s daughter Mala Martha told them about the minister’s death over phone from Mumbai. Mankin was taken to India on 16 April for better treatment as he had been suffering from lung cancer. His body will be flown to Dhaka on Thursday. President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have expressed profound shock at the death of Mankin. They also prayed for the eternal peace of his departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the family members of the bereaved. Promod Mankin was a resident of the village of Kochundhara at Haluaghat upazila in Mymensingh. He was elected as a lawmaker from constituencies of Haluaghat and Dhobaura in Mymensingh.

বিশেষ সংবাদদাতাঃ  ফাঁসির মঞ্চে উঠতে চাননি কুখ্যাত আল-বদর বাহিনীর প্রধান মতিউর রহমান নিজামী। তাকে জোর করে ফাঁসির মঞ্চে তুলতে হয়েছে।  ঢাকা কেন্দ্রীয় কারগারের একটি সূত্র মঙ্গলবার দিবাগত রাত ১টার দিকে এ খবর নিশ্চিত করেছে।  কারা সুত্র জানায় যে, রাত ১১টা ৫৫ মিনিটে তাকে ফাঁসি মঞ্চে নেয়ার পথে নিজামী ব্যাপক অনীহা প্রকাশ করেন।    সূত্রটি আরও জানায়, মতিউর রহমানকে কনডেম সেল থেকে ফাঁসির মঞ্চে নিয়ে আসার জন্য তিনজন জল্লাদ যখন যায় তখন তাদের সঙ্গে জোর-জবরদস্তি করেন তিনি। পরে জল্লাদরা জোর করে যখন তার মাথায় জমটুপি পরিয়ে ফাঁসির মঞ্চে তোলা হচ্ছিল তখন বেশ কয়েকবার বসে পরেন এবং মঞ্চে উঠতে অস্বীকার করেন। পরবর্তীতে ছয়জন কারারক্ষীর সহায়তায় জল্লাদরা শেষবারের মতো ধরে জোর করে ফাঁসির মঞ্চে তোলে নিজামিকে।  এর পরে, এই শীর্ষ যুদ্ধাপরাধীকে মঙ্গলবার (১০ মে) দিবাগত রাত ১২টা ১ মিনিটে ঢাকা কেন্দ্রীয় কারাগারে ফাঁসির মঞ্চে তার মৃত্যুদণ্ড কার্যকর করা হয়। www.natunsomoy.com
